Max Higbee Center
Welcome to our blog! To start we'd like to tell you a little about the Max Higbee Center, how we came to participate in its programs, and a little about what it means to us, us being Jeff and Meagan! We attend the Max Higbee weekend program almost every Friday and Saturday, we go on outings together, work on craft projects, sometimes learn things, and always have a lot of fun!
I think this is a wonderful place, I know a lot of people living with disabilities who don’t actually go out allot and this is a place where we can meet and hang out.
My aunt told me first about the Max Higbbee
When I first started it was at the senior center hall, it’s been a long time since I’ve been coming to the center. Because of having turner syndrome, being different and not being in contact with allot of people and being out of touch with my surroundings. Since began coming to the center I’ve become more comfortable in my own skin, my own body, the first time I went I was really scared I didn’t know anybody. But after introducing myself to people at the center I started to open up.
I feel like this is my home, this is where my friends are when I have problems I can come here to talk to my friends and the staff about my problems. Its helping me vocalize the things I feel.
I see allot of people come and go the staff and volunteers and members, all kinds of people come in to the center and its cool to see how much diversity there is, I love the center for the way I get to hang out with people, If I didn't have the center, I'd be missing out. I would not be as happy.
When I started at the center it was the "drop in center".
At first when I went there I was very nervous. The center introduced me to many friends that I've had along time now.
The drop in center was at 1416 State Street across from the bowling alley a few years later we moved to the senior center where the program was called “Max's place, I met my wife Rachel there, I asked her to go out on a date with me shortly after I met her at the center,
We were married at the old senior hall on august 7th 2010. I come with Rachel to the center every weekend.
One of my favorite activities that happens at the weekend program is bowling!
I love the strikes and the spares, and knocking down all the pins, the best score I ever got was 203!
