Max Higbee Community Recreation Center is a small nonprofit organization based in Bellingham, WA. We provide recreation programs for teens and adults (14 years of age and older) with developmental disabilities.
Our programs vary in when and where they operate, but strive to reach three common goals: 1.To provide opportunities for personal enjoyment and enrichment through a diverse range of leisure activities. 2. To promote the social, physical, cognitive and emotional growth and development of participants. 3. To assist participants to achieve greater independence in their lives
Our vision for the future...
The Max Higbee Community Recreation Center envisions a caring, inclusive, respectful, and thriving community where people are empowered to grow, develop, and enrich their lives through recreation activities and the relationships they create.
-Western Washington University students working on a service learning project helped Max Higbee Center develop this vision statement. A special thanks to Dr. Sass, Erin Greer, Rachel Laughlin, Michelle Sands, Travis Brittingham and Henry Hippley for their expertise and guidance through the development process!
