,Today for Healthy Lifestyles we walked in the nice dry weather to Boulevard Park! Originally we wanted to have a picnic, but it wasn’t quite warm enough to sit outside to eat our lunch. Hopefully soon! Instead we walked and just relaxed in the park for a bit, with a giant frisbee and a football. Some people explored the beach! “We were walking,” said Dancing Jalapeño, who added that many of us were “dancing with the speaker,” pointing out that we brought a speaker on our walk so we could listen to music! It was a great walk, and we’ll get our picnic in one of these days!
Today for Healthy Lifestyles we went over to CrossFit Iron Industry for a workout with Josh! We rode the bus out there in the rain, then warmed up with some exercise balls. “We did an obstacle course,” Wolfgirl pointed out, which included running and jumping over mats and climbing over boxes. “I did good today,” said 1Adam4. Well everybody did! There was also some tumbling, then lowering and lifting ourselves with the rope. After all that, we did a tug-of-war, which was dubbed a Doug-of-War, because Doug kept losing, even when he had help. The members won each time! Wahoo! (Wolfgirl did not advise the negative talk, and pointed out that Doug tried at least). “I liked the jumping,” shared Dancing Jalapeño. “I rocked and rolled there!” said T-Dawg. “I had a really good time, and I got all my steps in!” said Superstar, who keeps track on her AppleWatch. Great work everyone! We all feel fitter!
Today for Healthy Lifestyles we went on our scheduled trail walk, despite the rain! We headed over to Cornwall Park and walked around on the trails over there. “It was good walking and I enjoyed it,” said Mr. Silly Tomato. “I had fun walking,” said Dancing Jalapeño. ”I had to get my steps in,” said Superstar, pointing to her Apple Watch. Yes, we all got wet, but we also had a great time getting exercise out in nature! Hooray!
Today for Healthy Lifestyles, we went out to CrossFit Iron Industry to do a Freestyle Movement workout with our friend Josh! It was a pretty rainy day, so it was good to be inside his gym. We worked on balance and mobility, with such exercises as tumbling, rolling over, squatting, and jumping. “Basketball. I really liked that,” said Dancing Jalapeño, pointing out the activity we ended our workout with. “I played defense on Doug. I tried to block his shot,” said 2Lincoln1, who spent some of his time guarding the birthday boy while everyone else was shooting. “My favorite part was rolling and dropping down on the thing,” said Dancing Queen, indicating the boxes we jumped up on. A lot of calories were burned as we worked on being more mobile! Thanks, Josh! Everyone had a great Doug’s birthday!
Today we went to Civic Field to meet up with Carol and work out with the Fit School! The Fit School is a fitness program that had us moving and sweating out on the track. We sure picked a good day for it, since the weather was great! “We were on the track!” shared Valentines Day Man. “I hopped, with my feet,” he added. “We walked on the track, and then running,” said Running Jalapeño. Carol and all the other helpful people from the Fit School were so friendly! And we got a great workout in! Thanks, Carol!
Today for Healthy Lifestyles, we went back out to CrossFit Iron Industry to work out once again with our friend Josh! While there he had us do some of the exercises we’d done before as well as some brand new activities! We pushed the sled again, pulled ourselves up with the rope, did some running and jumping, and carried big heavy exercise balls across the parking lot! “I liked basketball!” shared Dancing Jalapeño, citing the activity we ended the day with. A lot of made shots on the basketball hoop that Josh recently added to his gym! “I hopped,” said Bus Guy. Thanks Josh! We’ll come get super-fit again soon!
Today for Healthy Lifestyles, we went back out to one of our favorite spots: CrossFit Iron Industry! Once there we did CrossFit with Josh (also known as JoshFit)! He had us tumbling, jumping, biking on stationary bikes, and more! “I like going there,” shared Working Out Jalapeño. He was so excited he also asked “When we come back?” “It was really fun because I had fun on the bike machine!” said Sweetheart, who pointed out she picked that nickname because it’s February. “We ran,” observed Dutch, citing the game Josh had us playing at the end, a variation on musical chairs with exercise balls. “I had a nice time,” said Weatherman. “A fun day,” said Puzzlemaster. I think that goes for everyone. Thanks Josh!
Today we went walking around downtown Bellingham to train up our bodies for the upcoming HEARTY PARTY 5K! WOOHOO! We walked for about 1 hour, picking up donations for that Hearty Party as we went. Sweetheart reflects, “I saw the water falling all the way down to Whatcom Creek. I took 8 pictures!”. What a photographer! Our friend, 1-Adam-6-1 wants everyone to know, “I found a really cool golden coin on our walk.” What a find! “The walk was so good. We took pictures with two owls,” exclaims Hearty Party Jalapeño. He’s not wrong, folks. Apparently downtown Bellingham has a strange affinity for owl statues! What an interesting, and productive 5k training day!
Today during Healthy Lifestyles, we did several holiday-themed workouts, and finished program borderline exhausted! To warm up we walked to the library and checked out the only Christmas movie left. Then after lunch we did a “Hanukkah workout” which included 8 of several exercises. After a quick break, we then did a “Christmas Story Workout.” Everyone was supportive and spirited! Our last activity was making an exercise game out of watching the Christmas movie we checked out. For instance we did 5 jumping jacks every time someone said Christmas and 30 seconds of running in place whenever we saw a Christmas tree. It was lots of fun and a creative way of burning calories! Now we’re all in the spirit!
Today for Healthy Lifestyles, we did our last yoga class with Sarah. “Awwwwww,” said Dancing Jalapeño when he heard the news. Yes, our spectacular yoga instructor, Sarah, is moving on to another important job, helping people in a different capacity. But we had a great last class with her! We warmed ourselves up by working our muscle of the month, our glutes! After practicing good form when we do a squat, we did lunch and headed to the YMCA. “We worked on tree pose,” pointed out Puzzlemaster. We also practiced a number of other poses played a new game, and each got a chance to teach a yoga move ourselves! “I did some yoga,” shared Big D. We all did today. “It’s awesome,” added Wolfgirl. Agreed. Thank you so much, Sarah, for such a great experience doing yoga with you! Good luck with all your future endeavors and hopefully we see you again if you want to stop by the center!
